Kyanite is a aluminum silicate (Al2SiO5) mineral that is a beautiful blue color and shimmery appearance. It has two polymorphs (minerals with the same chemical composition but different crystal structures): sillimanite and andalusite. Kyanite forms in high grade (high temperature and high pressure) metamorphic rocks.
Kyanite has a hardness of about 4.5-5 on Moh’s hardness scale, so it is fairly easily scratched. It also breaks relatively easily, so it’s best not to use it in jewelry that will undergo rough wear.
From mineralminers.com: “Kyanite is said to be very useful in enhancing one’s creativity, broadening one’s perspective, and in reaching a better understanding with others. Kyanite is also said to bring calm and tranquility, and to facilitate meditation.”
“Kyanite is said to help clear sinus congestion, and to help in the treatment of muscular disorders. ”
