Fool that I am, I stayed up all night taking photos of the lunar eclipse.
Enjoy!
Question of the Day: What silly things have you stayed up all night to do, even though you had important things to do the next day?

Beautiful pictures…
I had a biology class where one of the quiz questions involved calculating the velocity of cytoplasmic streaming in a cell. They left out an exponent by accident, so the answer to the question as written ended up being approximately 2/3C, which struck me as really funny. No one else noticed anything out of place. That’d be one heck of a sonic boom!
Hey Graymalkin – great to see you again!
I would have been *happy* if I had scored in the 60-somethingth percentile on the physics subject test. Luckily, my Subject score didn’t end up mattering for anything at all, and I did pretty well on the General.
Aren’t physics test scores relative to how close your velocity is to the speed-of-light?
I don’t know about that physics subject test. I seem to recall the guy in my college group of friends getting somewhere in the mid60th percentile on that test, when everyone taking different tests (english lit, biology, etc…) was scoring in the 99th. It may just be that way.
great photos! staying up was obviously worth it because you got some great shots!
I really need my sleep. I am not one of those people who can function with less than a full night’s sleep, but I always seem to find reasons that I absolutely must stay up anyway.
In college, I spent a lot of nights playing online interactive games (called MUDs – very primitive by today’s gaming standards.) When the MUD I played on shut down, a friend and I started our own. Then in grad school, I got hooked on Everquest. That’s absolutely the worst. After I pried myself off of Everquest, I played Utopia, which wasn’t so bad because it just required logging on two or three times a day to make an attack (or other upkeep). I was guilty, however, of setting an alarm for 3 am, so I could wake up, log on, make my attack, and go back to sleep.
(I had plenty of sleep for my GRE test, but I still totally bombed the Subject test – Physics. No excuses, I was just really bad at it!)
The night before the GRE’s, a friend came over who I’d been begging to teach me to play cribbage — so I stayed up till all hours of the AM learning and playing.
nad had to report somewhere at 8AM for the test — all day, since I was taking Biology, too.
I did just fine. quite fine, actually.
Third post… It rained all night so I didn’t see anything.
I have stayed up all night many times because we were trying to stay up for 24-hours. That was one of our games we’d play during summer vacation when Russell and I were kids.
One time I went to a friend’s house as the 24-hour mark passed. I was sitting on his couch and having those micro sleep things where I’d fall asleep for a second.
I think it would have been funny had you added a digitally modified picture of the moon at the end. A funny red moon would have been one with a water marked picture of one of your cats. Then you could act surprised that your cat was in the moon.
Awesome pictures! The stupid thing I’ve stayed up way too long for? Karaoke game on the xbox. I don’t even like karaoke that much! It’s addictive.
Great pictures… I saw a solar eclipse a few years back. Nothing like it! Sara x
