I have plenty of jewelry featuring October’s birthstones (opal and tourmaline) available now at Lava Jewelry.
Opal is a type of quartz that contains water in its crystal structure. It occurs in almost every color imaginable. Some varieties of opal include fire opal, black opal, blue opal, boulder opal, Peruvian opal, and Oregon opal. Opal is a fairly brittle stone, and it tends to break rather easily, especially if heated.

Tourmaline forms in literally every color. It forms primarily in very large-grained granites called pegmatites, although tourmaline can form in other geologic environments such as hydrothermal veins. It most often forms in very distinctive prismatic-shaped crystals with striations parallel to its long axis.
From mineralminers.com: “Tourmalines are said to enhance one’s understanding, increase self-confidence and amplify one’s psychic energies. They also are said to neutralize negative energies, dispel fear and grief, and to aid in concentration and communication.
Tourmalines are also said to be useful in relaxing the body and the mind, and to help in the treatment of infectious diseases, anxiety, blood poisoning, arthritis and heart disease.”

What pretty pink opal earrings! They’re lovely. And the tourmaline brios are beautiful.
Tourmaline is my favorite gemstone on the planet due its vast color variety. Oh, how I wish they I could get my hands on some paraiba tourmaline beads (or any copper bearing tourmaline bead for that matter). That color is the most amazing color, so much like apatite. Don’t they form very close to each other in South America? And doesn’t paraiba and apaite’s blue-green color come from copper? It’s amazing what mother earth puts here for us to play with, isn’t it? 🙂 And you do an amazing job at bringing it to the world in the form of your lovlies!
i love your work. it isn’t just about the quality of the stones. it’s also your handiwork and the effort that go into creating it. when i look at the wirework of my purchases from lava jewelry, it’s superior to alot of finishes. 🙂
Lovely tourmaline and sweet earrings.
