Featured Etsy Shop: byapryl

Today’s featured Etsy shop is byapryl, a shop featuring sculptures of trees out of wire and accented with gemstone “leaves”. Her work ranges from small birthstone trees and ornaments to more elaborate trees for use a cake tops and centerpieces for weddings and anniversaries.

I asked Apryl a few questions about herself and her work.

Tell me about yourself.
I am a 27 year old wire addict married to my wonderful husband Jeremy for the last 4 (almost 5!) years and mother to a calico named Priss. My passion is my business but to get out of the house I work part time at Michael’s Arts and Crafts (can you say discount!).

How did you get started making your art?
My grandparents were always crafters and traveled to shows all over the United States. I was taught by them not only in their craft. They truly changed my life. I didn’t know what I was going to do with myself until they took me under their wing.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about starting their own small business selling handmade goods?
Be ready to work! It takes a lot of self discipline to make your own business work and this applies even more so when you are creating and promoting all the product!

Where is your work available for sale?
I am currently selling only on the internet. I’ve had my own website, www.byapryl.com for almost four years and have recently discovered Etsy, where I am happily filling my shop up at byapryl.etsy.com.
