These pretty little earrings are light blue angellite stones wrapped in goldfill wire using a herringbone weave. They dangle from handformed goldfill ear wires. The earrings measure 1 1/2 inches (4cm) in length from the tops of the ear wires. The gemstones themselves measure approximately 8mm in diameter.

About goldfill: Goldfill is a wonderful inexpensive alternative to solid gold. Goldfill is not the same as gold plated. A gold plated metal has a very thin layer of gold that was electroplated onto a base metal. Goldfill, however, is made by heat fusing a layer of gold onto a layer of base metal (usually brass). Unlike gold plated metal, the gold on goldfill is unlikely to wear off, because it is more than 100 times thicker. The goldfill wire I used in making these earrings is 12/20. That means that 12kt gold makes up 1/20 of the volume of the metal.

I now offer niobium or titanium ear wires at no additional charge for my metal-sensitive customers. The titanium wires are a dark silver color, and the niobium ones are a copper color. Just let me know when you check out if you are interested in these options.
