I made this ring using red tigereye and goldfilled wire, which I wove in a herringbone weave. The tigereye is a beautiful deep mahogany red. This ring is a size 6 1/2.
Garnet is January's birthstone.
About goldfill: Goldfill is a wonderful inexpensive alternative to solid gold. Goldfill is not the same as gold plated. A gold plated metal has a very thin layer of gold that was electroplated onto a base metal. Goldfill, however, is made by heat fusing a layer of gold onto a layer of base metal (usually brass). Unlike gold plated metal, the gold on goldfill is unlikely to wear off, because it is 100-1000 times thicker. The goldfill wire I used in making this ring is 12/20. That means that 12kt gold makes up 1/20 of the volume of the metal.
