TEXTURES IN WAX

\nThis paper will describe and show various textures that I produce in wax and on the finished silver.<\/strong><\/p>\n

WAVE TEXTURE
\n $\"\"$ <\/a> $\"\"$ <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

This texture is produced with a hand made tool mounted in a cable driven hand piece.\u00a0 I do not have a picture of the result.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The tool is formed from a 10 gage silver wire.\u00a0 A piece of wire is bent 90 degrees.\u00a0 File a flat section on the tip on the wire as shown.\u00a0 Round the tip of the wire.
\n $\"\"$ <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

The wire is mounted in the chuck of a hand piece.\u00a0 The hand piece is moved up and down and left and right so that the tip gouges out grooves in the wax.
\nThe texture can be changed by changing the length of time the tip of the tool is held against the wax.<\/strong><\/p>\n

ROUND BURR CUT TEXTURE<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n<\/strong> $\"\"$ <\/a> $\"\"$ <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

This texture is produced with around burr mounted in a cable driven hand piece.\u00a0 The burr is bounced into the wax.\u00a0 Do not allow the burr to run in a line in the wax.\u00a0 The texture can be varied by changing the burr size.<\/strong><\/p>\n

PALLET KNIFE TEXTURE<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n $\"\"$ <\/a> $\"\"$ <\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n

The texture shown here is produced with sticky wax and a dental tool. Sticky wax is placed on the pallet knife like dental tool.\u00a0 The sticky wax is the spread on the wax model.\u00a0 The texture can be varied by changing the way the sticky wax is spread on the model.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A grainy sand cast texture can be generated with a modified dental tool.\u00a0 The color of the textured silver can be varied depending on how much the area is polished or brushed after being oxidized.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

SAND CAST TEXTURE<\/strong><\/p>\n

The tip of the dental is modified as shown in the photos above.
\n $\"\"$ <\/a> $\"\"$ <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThis is how the dental tool is held.\u00a0 Then tip of the tool is pressed against the wax and is rotated in small circles.<\/strong><\/p>\n

WALNUT TEXTURE<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThe tool is continually drawn through the wax until the desired texture is obtained.
\nThe photo on the right shows the shape of the dental tool that is used to produce this texture.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nNO NAME JUST USE. <\/strong><\/p>\n

(One of me karate instructors would always say that when we would ask him a name of some technique.\u00a0 It seems to work here.\u00a0 LOL)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThis texture process produces a very rough feathery surface.\u00a0 It is produced by putting sticky wax on the model then heating a tool and pushing it into the wax.\u00a0\u00a0 The final texture will depend on the size of the tool and the depth of the wax.<\/strong><\/p>\n

SPATTER TEXTURE
\n $\"\"$ <\/a> $\"\"$ <\/a>
\nThis texture process causes a bubbly texture.\u00a0 It is created by melting wax on a pallet knife.\u00a0 The pallet knife is held in one hand and the blade is pulled back then released above the model.\u00a0 This will cause the melted wax to be thrown onto the model causing a spattered affect.<\/strong><\/p>\n

HAMMER TOOL TEXTURE<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThis texture is produced after the model is cast and polished.\u00a0 It is produced with a cable driven hammer tool with a pointed tip.
\nThe tool hammers dimples into the metal.<\/strong><\/p>\n

BURR CUT TEXTURE<\/strong><\/p>\n

$\"\"$ <\/a>
\nThis texture can be varied by using different burrs with sharp edges.\u00a0 Again the hand piece is moved up and down and sideways.<\/strong><\/p>\n
