300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The jump rings are wrapped around a \u00bd inch wood dowel.<\/p>\n<p>Larger jump rings can be spun on a wood dowel mounted in a drill.\u00a0 If the dowel is larger in diameter than the drill chuck can handle the end of the dowel can be shaved.<br \/>\nShaving the ends of much larger dowels will not work.\u00a0 The wood will break before any coil can be wrapped.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5923.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-41\" src=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5923-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nTo solve this problem I tightened 4 nuts on a number 8 screw so that all the flat edges of the nuts matched.\u00a0 Coated the nuts with crazy glue.\u00a0 Drill a hole slightly smaller in diameter than the screw in one end of the larger dowel.\u00a0 Make sure the hold is centered on the center of the dowel.\u00a0 Place some epoxy or gorilla glue in the hole.\u00a0 Place a flat washer on the screw and screw it into the hole until the washer bottoms on the dowel.\u00a0 I wrapped soft wire around the end of the dowel to insure the screw would not break out during the wire turning process.<br \/>\nLet cure.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5925.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-42\" src=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5925-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nCut a slot in the end of the dowel that is the width of the wire diameter that will be used for the jump rings.\u00a0 Cut it about twice the wire diameters into the end of the dowel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5926.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-43\" src=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5926-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nBend a 90 degree tab in the wire that will be used for the jump rings.\u00a0 The tab should be shorter than the diameter of the dowel.\u00a0A wire sticking out of the dowel on the side opposite the wire bend will tear a finger during the turning process.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5929.jpg\"><img 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nPlace the screw into the chuck of a variable speed drill.\u00a0\u00a0 Slip the wire tab into the slot in the dowel. Put a glove on the hand that will be used to control the wire on the dowel.\u00a0 Place your gloved hand on the wire and hold the wire tight against the dowel.\u00a0 Turn the drill on a very slow speed.\u00a0 The gloved hand will guide the wire onto the dowel as it forms a coil.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5930.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-46\" src=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5930-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5930-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5930.jpg 410w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nCaution:\u00a0 Do not wrap the wire to the very end of the wire.\u00a0 The last part of the wire will not bend down onto the dowel and will remain a sharp vertical tab that can cut the gloved hand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5931.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-47\" src=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5931-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5931-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/leessilver\/files\/2008\/10\/dscn5931.jpg 615w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI slide the coil on another dowel.\u00a0 I use a jewelers saw to cut the jump rings while they are on the dowel.\u00a0 The jump rings are cut by the saw which is held at an angle to the dowel so that the top of one ring is cut at a time.\u00a0 The remaining portion of the coil can be slid into the saw as rings are cut off.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CREATING LARGE JUMP RINGS I use large jump rings for connecting conchos to make a belt.
