Here at Metalwerx, we are excited to offer a class that is a little bit different than any that we have ever offered before. This June 18^{th<\/sup> and 19^{th<\/sup>, learn to work with a new medium in Stone Carving<\/em> with Joe Montroy.<\/strong> Joe is a sculptor and Art Educator, who works in various sculptural media, and whose current body of work \u201cexplores formal aspects of sculpture at an intimate scale directly related to human interaction.\u201d Montroy states, \u201cI am intrigued by how we have meaningful relationships to objects small in size but not in significance. I am inspired by prehistorical artifacts, how they became imbued with meaning, and acquired value, spiritual essence, ritual significance, and contain meanings beyond their materiality.\u201d<\/p>\n}}

Joseph Montroy holds an MFA from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. His sculpture and jewelry is shown throughout Central and Eastern US. Joe teaches as an adjunct professor at both New Hampshire Technical Institute and New Hampshire Institute of Art, and offers workshops at a number of art centers across the northeast as well. Joe tells me that, \u201cTeaching helps me bring my own studio practice in to focus, and challenges me to approach what I do from many angles. I also find the dissemination of technique and processes very satisfying, providing individuals with the skills to realize their ideas in three dimensions.\u201d<\/p>\n
