{"id":35,"date":"2008-10-27T14:50:40","date_gmt":"2008-10-27T19:50:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pixieprincess.userblogs.ganoksin.coms\/?p=35"},"modified":"2008-10-27T14:50:40","modified_gmt":"2008-10-27T19:50:40","slug":"opals-are-my-ya-know","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/pixieprincess\/2008\/10\/27\/opals-are-my-ya-know\/","title":{"rendered":"Opals are my&#8230;. ya know&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, if you know me well, have heard the story, read the article, or just know my entertaining use of language, you can fill in the blank.\u00a0 Otherwise, make up your own entertaining title and swear you know it&#8217;s true.<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve been off the blog map for a bit, mostly\u00a0due to moving.\u00a0The studio is mostly back up and running.\u00a0 I hope to have plenty of new pieces\/stories\/pics\u00a0to share soon!\u00a0<br \/>\nMy most recent pieces are opal.\u00a0 The first is a simple set of rectangular cobalt enamel on copper earrings bezel set in sterling silver.\u00a0 I fused a bezel for the opal into the enamel and set the opal over the enamel.\u00a0 The slight translucency of the opal allows the cobalt to show through as well as act as a mirrorback for the opals&#8217; fire. Oooooooo!<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"yui-img\" style=\"width: 254px;height: 230px\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3198\/2944886610_4871c59d39.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"337\" height=\"306\" \/><br \/>\nThe second opal I cut back in Ohio in the summer of 2005.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a brown boulder opal which is seriously messy to cut, but, Boy-o!, is it fun!\u00a0 Through the wet brown muck on your hands suddenly flashes of color from the exposed precious opal come into view.\u00a0Each second\u00a0it changes shape and more or less peeks its way through.\u00a0 The fabulous &#8220;crack&#8221;* of precious opal that heads straight towards the point only showed itself in the final sanding and polishing steps. Score.<br \/>\nI decided to set it with a piece of silver scribble and do a sparkly (but sort of matte)\u00a0Mizzy wheel texture.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"yui-img\" style=\"width: 803px;height: 570px\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3050\/2944023761_e6fab4e3d4_b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"948\" height=\"693\" \/>\u00a0<br \/>\n~margarita<\/p>\n<p>*You know how\u00a0punny I am.
