No more opal in AZ

by richardcarew on January 9, 2010

I have received several comments regarding the availability of opal from Arizona.  As far as I know no one is currently working a claim. Certainly there is more to be had from my old claim but that means re-claiming it and dynamiting some more rock out.  If some one wants to make a go of it I’d be glad to act as a consultant and show you where the opal is.  I am physically incapable of doing it any more.  So have at it you guys.

Scott,

Do you live near the Phoenix area? If you do let me know and we’ll make arrangements from there. You should be aware that there is no opal easily gotten to at this point in time. It will take blasting and preferably a hammer-hoe. Or at a minimum a Hilti Hammer Drill and feathers and wedges. You can’t just take opal out of the place with out a great deal of preparation. Here is a link to the current mining laws http://rlch.org/content/view/910/44/ take a look at these and see if you are ready to make a long term commitment. Take your time and think about it. I’m here in bed and I’ll tell you it is literally back breaking work. If you read all of the above and still want to make a go of it I’ll be more than happy to take you out there.

sorry I am new to computers and put the wrong email address. I would be interested in mining the opals. Can you send me more details?

Jerry,
Sorry to hear about your back, at least you can have surgery, so count your blessings. Mine is so extensive that they can’t operate. So I’m stuck taking too much medication to drive, at least I don’t think you’d want me driving in your neighborhood. Oh well, “c’est la vie.” More to come in the opal department.

Gee, thanks but as far as I’m concerned I’m as bad off as you in the back department, eagerly awaiting back surgery to alleviate some of the pain, maybe. The only way I get any was if it was within fifty paces of the car with a sidewalk to the mine site. Such a sorry state to be in the two of us. Well I hope that you can find relief for your suffering. I’m sure glad that I’m in sunny AZ right now and not further north or east of here as the cold is really bothersome to the back pain.
