Of all the things in my life I could write about why The Laundry?<\/p>\n
The project has been brewing in one form or another since I was 15, so now as I’m on the 50 side of my 40s, even the mere suggestion that it may finally\u00a0happen is very exciting to me.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This concerns\u00a0more than me though.\u00a0 My laundry project has impacted the entire family in ways I couldn’t foretell and it is for this reason that I am attempting to record the process of converting an outside bathroom and laundry into a jewellery studio\/laundry in this blog.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This is my first blog so you’ll have to excuse any blunders.<\/p>\n
I live in rural Victoria, Australia.\u00a0 I started studying jewellery at High School in the 70s but was unable to secure an apprenticeship.\u00a0 I had been dabbling ever since until I found myself in London, hating my job in Television but living with a man who just got his “dream job”.\u00a0 On a whim I picked up the phone to a University in London I had been told ran fantastic jewellery courses.\u00a0 They were in the middle of interviewing for their Silversmithing, Jewellery and Allied Crafts Degree.\u00a0 I got on the train, had an interview and that was that.<\/p>\n
Not only did I get in and complete the Degree, I had 2 children and won a Goldsmith’s award for\u00a0Design in Jewellery along the way.\u00a0 Not bad for someone who can’t draw and never thought she’d have children.<\/p>\n
We moved back to Australia 7 years ago.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
My blog “The Laundry” is about the evolution of a bench in my backyard.\u00a0 This is a project for me but its positive impact on the family dynamics is undeniable and hopefully what I’ll be blogging about.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Who knows, eventually I may even post images of my work.\u00a0 Time will tell but first things first…\u00a0<\/p>\n
