﻿{"id":282,"date":"2011-05-22T12:02:47","date_gmt":"2011-05-22T02:02:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/suzannecronin\/?p=282"},"modified":"2011-05-22T23:13:33","modified_gmt":"2011-05-22T13:13:33","slug":"disobedient-daughter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/suzannecronin\/2011\/05\/22\/disobedient-daughter\/","title":{"rendered":"Disobedient Daughter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the good old days of pen and ink, my mother wrote me letters whenever I was away.\u00a0 Over the years she would say &#8220;I hope you&#8217;re burning those letters&#8221; and I would always reply yes.\u00a0Well, you may have guessed that was not the case!\u00a0 In fact, I kept all her letters from 1980 until her last was\u00a0penned by my then sister in law, Debbie, not long before\u00a0mum died of cancer.<\/p>\n<p>In a rare moment of motivation to de-clutter my house, I thought it was time to make good on my promise.\u00a0 Now, my daughter was making paper beads for a market stall (see <em>Stuck post<\/em>) and it got me thinking that maybe I could use the letters in the same way.\u00a0 The idea was to turn them into beads and make something\u00a0precious to give family members, so that a little piece of mum would always be close.\u00a0 Great idea, in theory!<a href=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/suzannecronin\/files\/2011\/05\/2011-03-30_2684_edited-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-264\" src=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/suzannecronin\/files\/2011\/05\/2011-03-30_2684_edited-1-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/suzannecronin\/files\/2011\/05\/2011-03-30_2684_edited-1-300x195.jpg 300w, http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/suzannecronin\/files\/2011\/05\/2011-03-30_2684_edited-1-1024x668.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So\u00a0I dug out the box and thought I&#8217;d read just one.\u00a0That letter lead to another and another and another until I couldn&#8217;t bring myself to part with them.\u00a0\u00a0 Unfolding before my eyes\u00a0were not only\u00a0details of my\u00a0past, that\u00a0I&#8217;d forgotten, but also\u00a0the history of my relationship with my mum and her relationship with the family. The more I read the more I remembered\u00a0as mum dutifully\u00a0kept me informed of all my family&#8217;s\u00a0ups and downs.\u00a0 The clincher in keeping the letters was that it also detailed the evolution of my relationship with my partner and father to our children.\u00a0 I decided to keep th<a href=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/suzannecronin\/files\/2011\/05\/2011-03-30_2675_edited-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-263\" src=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/suzannecronin\/files\/2011\/05\/2011-03-30_2675_edited-1-300x236.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/suzannecronin\/files\/2011\/05\/2011-03-30_2675_edited-1-300x236.jpg 300w, http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/suzannecronin\/files\/2011\/05\/2011-03-30_2675_edited-1-1024x806.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>e letters\u00a0for them so they&#8217;ll have an insight into their parents, a family history if you like.<\/p>\n<p>I still wanted to make beads to give to the family so I selectively cut up a couple of letters, much to my daughter&#8217;s horror: &#8220;I hope you&#8217;ve scanned those mum?&#8221;\u00a0 I was one step ahead of her, scanned, printed and put in date order.\u00a0 I gave\u00a0family members the actual letters, as beads.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by a wire bead tutorial I got from the Mocknet shop on Etsy, I had a go at using the same techniques with several tweaks as I already had the finished beads.\u00a0 Well, I felt like mum was in The Laundry with me.
