I read an article from Jeweller magazine that Matrix \u00a0is releasing a new version of their software in Australia at the trade fair in Sydney. This is the first and probably the last in two years.<\/p>\n
One thing I am certain of is that it will be a patch on JEWELRY CAD DREAM and will not have history.<\/p>\n
HISTORY in JEWELRY CAD DREAM\u00a0is like DNA. It is what makes up the structure of your pattern. It is like a dictionary. You can go back to any part of your pattern and make changes. Then you can save that file and keep it as another pattern from the original which also can be changed. IT IS NOT JUST AN STL FILE which cannot be changed for printing.<\/p>\n
JEWELRY CAD DREAM\u00a0has a function In making changes where you can now FREEZE FRAME when making changes. This means you can change only the parts of the file you want changed.<\/p>\n
JEWELRY CAD DREAM also in the latest upgrade a two click rendering function. Two minute rendering. Once you make the pattern file and want to show your customer you only have to do two clicks and the item is rendered.<\/p>\n

Two leading international CAD developers will be visiting Australia later this month in a bid to help local jewellers improve their CAD software techniques and competitive manufacturing edge.
\n<\/span><\/div>\n
US-based Matt Bennett and Adam Bewley will be presenting a masterclass for Gemvision\u2019s Matrix 3D software in Sydney from Friday 29 August to Saturday 30 August.\u00a0Both are developers for the CAD program, which was designed specifically for jewellery manufacturing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
The two-day course \u2013 hosted by local Gemvision supplier Evolution Jewellers \u2013 will demonstrate advanced Matrix techniques to more than 50 Australian and New Zealand users of the technology.<\/span><\/p>\n
Evolution Jewellers director Anthony Nowlan explained that attendees would be introduced to the new tools and techniques available in the upcoming Matrix V8, as well as more generalised practices aimed to improve the skills of designers at all levels.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe course will feature valuable gem layout tools, rendering tricks, animation builders, T-Splines, and much more,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n
In addition to learning how to maximise the Matrix software, Nowlan said masterclass attendees would also benefit from the opportunity to meet other industry members: \u201cWe have Matrix users from all over Australia, New Zealand and as far away as Indonesia attending the event.<\/span><\/p>\n
\u201cThe beauty of an event such as this is that not only do you get to expand your knowledge, but you also get to network with other like-minded jewellers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
A similar course was conducted in 2011 to coincide with the JAA International Jewellery Fair in Sydney, which also featured two Gemvision developers, Kent West and Travis Serio. According to Nowlan, it was a \u201cresounding success\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m confident that all who participated in the course left as better designers for having attended,\u201d he said. \u201cMany new tricks, tips and tools were featured, along with a \u2018work in progress\u2019 disc for the next version of Matrix. Our Australian and New Zealand clients [customers] who attended the class were amongst the first in the world to utilise the power of Matrix V7.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
Progression of CAD<\/strong><\/span>
\nCommenting on the acceptance among jewellers of CAD software, Nowlan said, \u201cIn 2011, we had roughly 195 clients who were utilising Matrix. To date we currently have 326 clients throughout Australia and New Zealand who are utilising Matrix.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
He explained when it was first introduced, many jewellers considered CAD to be a \u201cbit of a fad \u2013 an interesting novelty that might appeal to only the \u2018techno-geeks\u2019\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nowlan believed that it was a combination of rising precious metal prices and increased demand for more unique jewellery that drove jewellers to finally embrace the technology.<\/span><\/p>\n
\u201cIn my opinion, CAD software has not only given rise to an increase of creativity amongst Australian and New Zealand jewellers but has also helped jewellers become more efficient with their time and precious metal wastage, as well as creating virtual inventories with photo realistic renders.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
