The <\/span><\/span><span><span><span>Jewelry Design Business<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span> Development Grant is awarded to a new jewelry entrepreneur each year.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span><span><span><span><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span>Western jewelry designer<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span> Amy Fortunato of Cowboy\u2019s Sweetheart rounded up top honors in the 2010 Jewelry Design Business Development Grant competition. Her prize package includes $6,000 in start-up cash and jewelry supplies. The annual award is sponsored by jewelry supply wholesaler Halstead Bead, Inc.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span>The grant is awarded to a new jeweler in the bridge or <\/span><\/span><span><span><span>art jewelry<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span> segment each year in recognition of design skill and <\/span><\/span><span><span><span>business acumen<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span>. Candidates must submit lengthy applications including portfolios of original jewelry and details of their business plans.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><i><span><br \/><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><i><span>\u201cAmy\u2019s work beautifully blends western inspired silversmithing with contemporary design elements. Her line is both fashionable and affordable,\u201d<\/span><\/i><span> said one competition judge,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span>Hilary Halstead Scott, <\/span><i><span>\u201cher witty branding and accessible price points are perfect for an accessory start-up in the current economy.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span>Fortunato<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span> received her jewelry training as part of a Fine Arts degree from the <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span>University of Connecticut. Her career has included graphic design and jewelry production for other companies prior to launching Cowboy\u2019s Sweetheart. Fortunato describes the genesis of her company as her answer to the call \u201cGo West, young lady, go West!\u201d After moving to Colorado she began her love affair with the region\u2019s natural surroundings, history and people.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><i><span><br \/><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><i><span>\u201cI attempt to celebrate a little bit of the American West each time I turn out a new piece.\u201d<\/span><\/i><span> she stated.<\/span><i><span> \u201cI am thrilled to receive this recognition and the opportunity to grow my business.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span>Cowboy\u2019s Sweetheart joins a distinguished list of past Grant winners in the industry.
