Introduction

Time to put fingers to keys and start making something of this blog. Seventeen years ago I retired from a former life as a civil engineer and took up metalsmithing. At the same time my wife and I moved from my home and practice in Auckland, New Zealand to a relaxed life on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Australia at Noosa Heads.

I work mainly in silver with a bit of gold thrown in, some of my work appears below, but at the present time I am not getting much done in the studio due to a badly sprained left wrist and thumb. Took a dive on the tennis court going for a wide ball. I knew I should have replaced those worn shoes.

One ongoing project that slots between other things is the replacement of the salts in an antique silver cruet set which came down from my grandmother, don’t know how much further back it goes. There are two peppers and a mustard pot but all that remains of the salts are the blue glass liners, who knows what happened to the originals, they were probably put away and only the liners used because the salt tarnished the silver and subsequently lost. They carry and English hallmark, see below. Will post progress on these as it happens.
