All of this is flowing from two stories of hotel suites out into the courtyard &amp; parking areas between the rows of hotel rooms.<\/p>\n<p>We were here to check out the opal carving demo by internationally known carver, Daniela L\u2019Abbate. I met Dani at the 2007 show and Jennifer (my Tucson roommate) had some opal questions that needed answers. I heartily recommend his cabs (sorry I didn\u2019t get a photo). He has a wide range of stones and while he doesn\u2019t have a website I am sure he would be willing to send information on any stones you need. Unlike Globe X most of this show is under giant tents \u2013 there are still folks selling out of there suites. I will never forget the first time I asked a dealer to show me a strand of emeralds and he had to crawl across his bed to get to the case&#8230;only in Tucson!<\/div>\n<div>The nice thing about this one is that the outside booths are poolside! There are bar &amp; food stations outside and a Bennigan\u2019s inside. <\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_dYOW3_y9xoY\/R6WC1Qn9BdI\/AAAAAAAAAFo\/FwvEe8eTrIs\/s1600-h\/225725678110_0_BG.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" height=\"148\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_dYOW3_y9xoY\/R6WC1Qn9BdI\/AAAAAAAAAFo\/FwvEe8eTrIs\/s320\/225725678110_0_BG.jpg\" width=\"226\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>The outside booths at the edge of the Riverpark housed the \u201ccheaper stuff\u201d \u2013 now in saying that be aware that this is also where I made my first purchase (double drilled shell bracelets in the photo), so cheap isn\u2019t always bad! The gem rough at this show is beautiful, but I will talk about that tomorrow when I go back to pick up some rough that I can work up in the Learning Center later this week!<\/p>\n<p>OK \u2013 so into the \u201cbig\u201d tent \u2013 lovely things from Amber to Watches made from Meteorites. I left Jennifer at \u201cThe Opal Zone\u201d looking at some really nice Koroit opal (he also has some of the nicest Ethiopian Opal I have seen) and I went off to look for the award winning faceter\/carvers that I remembered from the previous year. <\/p><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>It didn\u2019t take long to find John Dyer the gemstone artist, behind the crowd at his booth&#8230;check out his newly revamped website at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.john-dyer.com\/\">http:\/\/www.john-dyer.com\/<\/a> . Just around the corner was Sean Davis Creations\u2019 custom carvings, always a unique &#8211; you can see an example at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cabosean.com\/\">http:\/\/www.cabosean.com\/<\/a> . I found the folks at Vista Gems to be delightful and very helpful \u2013 their <em>Trend Watch<\/em> hint was green moonstone!!! Another <em>Trend Watch<\/em> &#8211; Larimar was beautifully represented by Larimar from Conlight&#8230;find him online at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.larimar.info\/\">http:\/\/www.larimar.info\/<\/a> .<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_dYOW3_y9xoY\/R6WBugn9BZI\/AAAAAAAAAFI\/-T5da0f4r0M\/s1600-h\/Riverpark.jpg\"><img alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_dYOW3_y9xoY\/R6WBugn9BZI\/AAAAAAAAAFI\/-T5da0f4r0M\/s320\/Riverpark.jpg\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a> <\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em>John Dyer \u2013 Gemstone Artist (that clean-cut young man between the two women) talking with customers at his booth just inside the poolside entrance of the \u201cbig tent\u201d at the Riverpark Hotel.<br \/><\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong><em><\/em><\/strong> <\/div>\n<div><strong><em><\/em><\/strong> <\/div>\n<div><strong><em><\/em><\/strong> <\/div>\n<div><strong><em><\/em><\/strong> <\/div>\n<div><strong><em>TREND WATCH \u2013<\/em><\/strong> We all watched as Rutilated Quartz jump onto the \u201cmust have\u201d lists of several major designers&#8230;well my picks for this year are Medusa Quartz (AKA Paraiba Quartz <a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_dYOW3_y9xoY\/R6WEBQn9BfI\/AAAAAAAAAF4\/hYB6x8EdUBg\/s1600-h\/Medusa+Quartz.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" height=\"199\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_dYOW3_y9xoY\/R6WEBQn9BfI\/AAAAAAAAAF4\/hYB6x8EdUBg\/s320\/Medusa+Quartz.jpg\" width=\"126\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>and Lepidocrosite in Quartz (AKA Fire Quartz). Daniel Ingalsbe at <em>Pyramid Imports<\/em> had a large assortment of Medusa Quartz, which features a beautiful aqua inclusion splashed (literally it looks like water dripped into the stone) in clear quartz. And while his Lepidocrosite in Quartz was gorgeous I have to say it was the first time I have ever seen Lepidocrosite in Amethyst. Tennessee oozed southern hospitality, they were helpful and accommodating&#8230;their product speaks for itself.
