font-size: x-small;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #2f302f; line-height: 17px;\">&#8220;Meg Berry has been a lapidary artist working in the gem and jewelry industry since 1974 and has earned\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #2f302f; line-height: 17px;\">over a dozen AGTA Cutting Edge Awards. \u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #2f302f; line-height: 17px;\">\u00a0In 1992, the late treasure hunter, Mel Fisher, commissioned Meg to facet the largest of the rough emerald crystals recovered from the Spanish galleon &#8220;Atocha,&#8221; which sank in 1622 in the Florida straits. \u00a0Since then, Meg has cut more than one hundred of these &#8220;old mine&#8221; emerald crystals. \u00a0During the construction of the GIA campus in Carlsbad, California, the late Vince Manson commissioned Meg to cut and polish the concept pieces of rocks and slabs placed as name plates outside each door.<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #2f302f; line-height: 17px;\"><br \/>\n<\/span>Meg currently produces one-of-a-kind extraordinary gemstone creations using a combination of techniques that may include faceting, carving, frosting and piercing\u2014sometimes all on the same stone! \u00a0Her work is thematic, designed to elicit an emotional response and an appreciation for the beauty of Nature.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; back to the Opal Society Meeting&#8230;Meg was originally booked to do a talk on &#8220;Cutting Phenomenal Gems&#8221; \u00a0&#8211; but as usually happens in a room of like minded enthusiasts, she talked\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;\">on<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;\">\u00a0&#8220;Cutting the Atocha Emeralds&#8221; &#8211; what an interesting presentation&#8230;and then went on to cover a fabulous talk on &#8220;Beryls&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-0RWOH7U5Eb0\/TdC_6kfZFcI\/AAAAAAAAJTo\/WMlYz5ORJMg\/s1600\/100_1633.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"clear: left;
