These are a couple of studies I recently completed using cable ties to make necklaces. I’m loving the colours and patterns you can produce with them. The final piece I created is a very dramatic and 3-dimensional collar but I will save it to share in my upcoming book on found objects/recycled materials in jewelry. Enjoy the teaser + give a shout!

Casey- I didn’t realize they came in so many colours either. I had only seen the fluorescent ones in Home Depot. These came from a dollar store.
Jane- Christel Van Derlaan’s pieces using the swing tags are gorgeous!!! I have a bunch of them too but still doing more experiments with them. Thanx so much for the link to her site.
+ thanx to you both for your comments!
Peace.
Fun things, Heather. And you can go much further with the concept! A colleague here in West Australia did a stunning series of ‘colliers’, brooches and bracelets using the swing tags used to attach price tags to clothing … combined with 18K gold, which wasn’t quite as expensive then. You can see some of them here: http://www.christelvanderlaan.com/
Very cool! I had no idea zip ties came in that many colors! (Guess we learn something new every day, huh?) The collar sounds awesome- can’t wait to see it.
