﻿{"id":105,"date":"2010-11-01T09:15:09","date_gmt":"2010-11-01T14:15:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jewelryartsinstitute.userblogs.ganoksin.coms\/?p=105"},"modified":"2010-11-01T09:15:09","modified_gmt":"2010-11-01T14:15:09","slug":"student-of-the-week-kate-sheehan-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/jewelryartsinstitute\/2010\/11\/01\/student-of-the-week-kate-sheehan-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Student of the Week- Kate Sheehan"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_106\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 500px\">\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jewelryartsinstitute.com\/studentworkoftheweek.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-106\" src=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/jewelryartsinstitute\/files\/2010\/11\/katesheehan3.jpg\" alt=\"22k gold and fancy sapphires\" width=\"500\" height=\"574\" srcset=\"https:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/jewelryartsinstitute\/files\/2010\/11\/katesheehan3.jpg 500w, https:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/jewelryartsinstitute\/files\/2010\/11\/katesheehan3-261x300.jpg 261w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>\n\t<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">22k gold and fancy sapphires<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u00a0Congratulations to our latest Student of the Week- Kate Sheehan.\u00a0\u00a0 These earrings are beautiful but Kate struggled with the jump rings quite a bit.\u00a0 I thought I would give some tips on jump rings because they are a common stumbling block for students.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 First of all, it is important to consider your jump rings while you are making your bezels.\u00a0 You must leave enough height to accommodate your\u00a0jump rings\u00a0AND still have the room to set your stones.\u00a0 Often people will go sanding their bezels down quite low without considering the height of their\u00a0jump rings\u00a0or the bezel height required to use your bezel roller to set.\u00a0 Also, the number of jump rings must be considered.\u00a0 The two basic choices for a piece like this is two or three jump rings between each bezel.\u00a0 In the case of three jump rings, each\u00a0bezel has a jump ring soldered flat against the side of the bezel, parallel to the bottom of the bezel.\u00a0 The third jump ring is threaded through the two flat ones on the bezels and soldered shut.\u00a0 This scenario leaves the most room for setting and can accommodate the the\u00a0lowest bezels.\u00a0 Kate wanted to use only two jump rings between bezels for more of a minimalist look.\u00a0 This requires one jump ring soldered horizontally and the other soldered vertically.\u00a0 This\u00a0takes up a lot more height and can impede setting.\u00a0 With proper planning this is no problem but make sure you consider this before you decide on the height of your bezels.\u00a0 One last thing about soldering your jump rings on.\u00a0 Put your flame on the bezel not the jump ring.
