﻿{"id":264,"date":"2011-06-28T11:51:15","date_gmt":"2011-06-28T11:51:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/jewelryartsinstitute\/?p=264"},"modified":"2011-06-28T12:02:47","modified_gmt":"2011-06-28T12:02:47","slug":"jewelry-arts-institutes-student-of-the-week-barbara-clayton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/jewelryartsinstitute\/2011\/06\/28\/jewelry-arts-institutes-student-of-the-week-barbara-clayton\/","title":{"rendered":"Jewelry Arts Institute&#8217;s Student of the Week-Barbara Clayton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jewelryartsinstitute.com\/studentworkoftheweek.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-265\" src=\"http:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/jewelryartsinstitute\/files\/2011\/06\/barbaraclaytonO1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"547\" srcset=\"https:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/jewelryartsinstitute\/files\/2011\/06\/barbaraclaytonO1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/userblogs.ganoksin.com\/jewelryartsinstitute\/files\/2011\/06\/barbaraclaytonO1-274x300.jpg 274w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a> Congratulations to our latest Student of the Week- Barbara Clayton.\u00a0 I thought we might continue our discussion on jumprings with these striking earrings.\u00a0 Barbara did a fabulous job with these earrings, letting the stones be the star.\u00a0 To allow the stones to keep center stage, the jumprings have to do their job as well as be in proportion to avoid the HELLO I AM A JUMPRING effect I&#8217;m sure you have all seen before.\u00a0 Here are a few tips on how Barbara did it.<\/p>\n<p>Oftentimes having a full circle jumpring soldered to a bezel makes it too prominent in the design.\u00a0 An easy solution to this is to make a half jumpring but they often prove tricky for students.\u00a0 The key to making them match and look beautiful is the &#8220;wasted&#8221; step in between of soldering your jumprings closed first.\u00a0 Barbara then stretched them perfectly round on a small mandrel.\u00a0 The key to making them match is to stretch one until it looks nice and round and mark that spot on your mandrel with a sharpie.\u00a0 It&#8217;s then easy to stretch them all to exactly the same size for perfect matches.\u00a0 We then mark 1\/3 to 1\/2 of the circle where the seam is and cut it off.\u00a0 A little filing is then all it takes to prepare them for soldering.\u00a0 Barbara did a wonderful job with her jumprings and let her stones shine.
