Booth Advice Needed

by katherinemiess on January 8, 2009

In the previous post I have a picture of a mock setup for an indoor display. I need some advice on what to use for walls to frame my 10×10 allotment of space.

I have an idea that would use PVC pipe, and it’s appropriate angle joints (if that’s what they’re called) to create a big cube. Something I can easily assemble, and strong enough to hang curtains and lights from. Maybe even concealing extension cords within the tubing.

Is this a common way to construct a booth- or bad news? Do any of you indoor show do-ers have any suggestions for me? I’d appreciate any suggestions. I have until the end of may, so time is on my side….right?

Please see my blog post from early December. It has a photo of a PVC frame booth I used for my first show. Good luck!

I have never done an indoor show, so I am no help. I seem to remember someone talking about building frames with pvc to hang curtains on though. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

LOL, I am on an minimal awareness roll today. You picture below has large posters of your work on it, and I suggested that. I need more coffee :o)
Sorry, I was minimal help.

Thanks Michael!

I do have some large images to hang, and have been thinking about a banner with my name.

The wooden shelf idea sounds great. I have some beautiful locking glass cases that I put on folding tables. Along with some pedistals. The “guts” of my booth are in pretty good shape…its just the engineering of the walls that have me brainstorming.

Your advice is much appreciated.

LOL, I missed the first sentence where you said “indoor.” I think PVC would be great. :o)

You could even paint it. I would suggest going to Kinkos and getting large pictures printed of your best work, laminating or framing it, and hanging it behind your display. From a distance jewelry cannot be seen well, and a large image might attract in someone who is intrigued by your images. Also, having some sort of logo or something that customers can associate with your business is good. That will sink it into the public’s mind what to look for when looking for your jewelery. Even if it is just your name and maybe your website.

I hope this helps.

It would help to know whether this was an indoor or outdoor venue. Most show require a specific type and color of tent. If this is an indoor venue then PVC could spice up your space.

I don’t sell my work this way anymore, but I used to set up next to this guy who had all of these neat wooden shelves that looked like heavy wooden cabinets with shelf space down below for boxes and bags. But, when he took it down I realized that he had made it out of veneer covered cardboard, and it folded down to a very thin stack. It was a very neat idea.
