Today, after a month of sitting in my basement, Mike and I put the filters in my dust collector. This little project was supposed to be done way back in October, but due to some ordering mix- ups, I didn’t receive the filters until mid December- and by then I was knee deep in Christmas.
I also got my proposal e-mailed to Lark Books for the 30 Minute Earrings Publication! Wish me luck! I’ve never applied to anything like this before, so I’m just excited to have the guts to do it.
Last but not least, I got some good banjo practice in today. I practiced Friday and Saturday too. My fingers are sore, but my speed with changing chords has been improving!
This new calendar thing is working out great! I look at it every morning for my general obligations of the day. Then based on that, make a detailed list of things to do. At the end of the day I write my specific accomplishments on the calendar and check them off. It’s such a good feeling to be back in regular (and very productive) routine.
Tomorrow, I’ll be re-familiarizing myself with my studio. My task for the day is to look at all of the unfinished pieces I intended to have done for Christmas, and put a timeline on them. I get to start working again!

I got a chuckle out of your car “jams”. I have some friends, along with a little sis’ learning the mandolin. I started with the guitar years ago- just some simple chords. After taking real lessons on the banjo, I’m looking forward to learning to play the guitar the right way. I’d love to learn the mandolin and the uke as well. Between music and jewelry, I’ll have arthritis by the time I’m thirty. Oh passions!
You can’t swing a po’ cat without hitting a bluegrass thumper in this area, lol. Just kiddin’ I am originally from Oklahoma, but I now live in Alabama. I love all forms of music, but when I first saw someone use the claw hammer style, I just had to figure it out. The ukulele is getting a Renaissance in this area. It is so easy to learn and then transfer the chord structures to guitar. Plus, you can keep it in the seat next to you in the car and play at traffic lights and gridlocks :o) It makes a great way to get kids into the guitar, but my oldest daughter is beyond that. And, she looking for a challenge. She dresses very Emo, but plays folk and grass. Great Blogs!!!
Wow! Not only am I a fellow jeweler and Banjo player- I also play the clawhammer style! You must be from the Appalachian region- because here in western New York, clawhammer is pretty much unheard of! Although I admire and love the three finger picking of bluegrass – clawhammer is more my style.
Cool, another jeweler/ picker. Although it has been years since I’ve focused on my banjo for myself, I am currently working with my oldest daughter on using the claw hammer style on the ukulele. I have been just working on the guitar and flute, while my youngest is still struggling with the dulcimer. It keeps my fingertips tough for cabbing :o)
