Earrings & Medallion

Husband/wife duo Pirkle Jones and Ruth-Marion Baruch complied a collection of photographs of two iconic movements of San Francisco – The Black Panther Party and The Summer of Love of the late 1960’s. Although a juxtaposition in how they expressed their sociopolitical fervor, both groups represented the outcasted youth of San Francisco of the time and their accessories are definitely worth noting. In visiting the exhibit of the book of photographs “Black Power*Flower Power” at the Harvey Milk Photo Center, I was asked if I could help identify some of the people in the photographs being that I am a native to the City. Of course, I was not alive at the time of the photos, but I certainly wished I was around to ask some of these amazing people What made you decide to put on those gorgeous earrings this morning ? or better yet Where did the inspiration come from to wear a chain around your forehead? Truly amazing stuff…
