Cicadas and Fireflies

At Penland these past couple of weeks, I was taking a class called Enameling; Image and Word with a focus on Haiku writing. We had to write five haikus a day. We picked the ones we liked most from each day, and ended up creating a one of a kind book that went in the scholarship auction at Penland. The haikus by each person chosen were amazing, and I loved participating in the creation of this amazing book.

The borders around each page were letterpress. The front hinge was made of copper and brass. The front and back cover were made of museum quality navy blue book cloth, with enameled tiles (one by each member of the class) inlaid. The paper was Mohawk Superfine, and the stitching was done with waxed linen. It was mostly (90% or so) archival.

You can see more pictures of this one of a kind art-book on my flickr page.
