A week at Haliburton

I’ve just returned from a week of teaching at the Haliburton School of the Arts. What a wonderful experience!

There were 15 enthusiastic ladies in my wire jewellery class. “Lively” would hardly begin to describe the vibe this group generated. Although I threw a lot of information at them, they were eager to apply the techniques and were soon off and running, creating jewellery with their own unique twists.

Over the course of the week, the ladies made three different types of chains, with closure findings, earrings, a bangle bracelet, ring and bezel set pendant using traditional wire wrapping techniques, a wire sculpted pendant, freeform pendants and bangles and finally, some channel set pendants.

On Thursday, the school hosted a “Walk About”, where students and the general public were invited to visit the various classrooms. We created a wall display of the work created in the class. It was exciting for all of us to see! Everyone learned the same techniques, but the results were rich and varied! There were many compliments and one visitor even asked if the pieces were available for sale!

Here’s a gallery of the students’ work. I asked each of them to pick their favourites to photograph, and in some cases, I added favourite of my own.

It was a great week! I really enjoyed teaching the class and hope to be invited back again!
