Duck and Cover

I’ve been wondering… Under what circumstances is “duck and cover” actually effective? How effective is “duck and cover”? Hollywood sure makes it look like a wonderful tool for the good guys.

BSG Season 1 is far superior to Season 2. Much stronger plotline. Many Season 2 episodes seem rather pointless. Skip Season 2 and go straight for Season 1, that’s what I say!

Would it be a good idea to watch season 2 of BSG befor season 1?

The circumstances that duck-and-cover are effective is when people are far enough away from a nuclear explosion to not be instantly killed, but still be in the blast waves. The initial wave of debris can pick up objects and hurl them with tremendous force. A lower profile will help prevent a person from being picked up and lessen the likelihood of being it by an object. One must remember the second blast wave that will come from the opposite direction from the first. Staying low and covering your head may save your life.

I have been asked similar questions several times by Marines. I tell them “If someone started shooting at you, what would you do? Just stand up and let the bullets hit you?” They, of course, said something about cover and concealment, and directed fire. I would say that protecting against WMD is like protecting yourself and Marines in a fire fight. They both are dangerous situations that people will die, but there are ways to lessen the deaths and save your self.
