August’s Birthstone: Peridot!

by micheledodge on August 1, 2006

Lava Jewelry has many styles of necklaces, bracelets, and earrings featuring pretty green peridot, August’s birthstone. So don’t forget those August birthdays!

Peridot is a lime- to olive-green semi-precious gemstone that is a silicate mineral called olivine. Olivine is found as crystals in basaltic lava (like the lava in Hawaii).

From mineralminers.com: “Peridot is said to bring healing and vitality to the whole body. It is also said to increase patience, confidence and assertiveness. Peridot is said to help slow the aging process, and to aid in the treatment of digestive, heart, lung and eye disorders. It is also said to be helpfull in facilitating the birthing process. ”

Quartz is indeed a silicate mineral. It is silica with some impurities.

I didn’t know that Kara is still recallable. For how much longer?

Quartz has silica right? If not I’ll turn my uber-pHD in geological aspects of the universe back into the Multiversity of Omniverse.

They’re recalling some Marines. Kara is still recallable. I am not. I got my final honorable discharge last June.

I’m afraid that crazy salt is not a silicate mineral.

Its formula is CzNaCl. No silica involved.

Thank you. Please try again.

Basalt -unless I’m mistaken- because ‘ba’ is crazy in Thai so ba-salt is crazy salt.

Would crazy salt qualify as a silicate mineral?
