I made this necklace using faceted chunks of whiskey quartz, genuine amber, and upcycled seed beads. The seed beads in this necklace were part of my favorite necklace in high school, and when the necklace broke, I saved all of the beads, knowing that I would eventually find a good use for them. I guess by Etsy's definition, they're vintage beads! The seed beads are a transparent root beer color and opaque black. They are not uniform in size or shape, and that gives the necklace a wonderful texture that it wouldn't otherwise have.

The whiskey quartz is a sort of honey color, and the chunks vary quite a bit in shape. The amber beads are a combination of coin-shaped and round. I've added sterling silver beads here and there for interest. The three strands are graduated lengths.

The clasp is a hook-and-eye style sterling silver clasp. The shortest strand measures approximately 21 inches (53cm) in length, and the longest strand is about 24 inches (61cm), so this is a nice long necklace.

About sterling silver:
Sterling silver is an alloy consisting of a minimum of 92.5% silver (the other 7.5% is typically copper). I choose to use solid sterling instead of plated metal in my work because it is my experience that plating wears off. Properly cared for sterling silver lasts a lifetime and beyond.
