One of the most versatile and impressive tools available for jewelry makers is the hydraulic press. Founded by Revere graduate Lee Marshall, Bonny Doon Engineering has been designing and creating equipment and tools for jewelers for over 25 years, including shop-size hydraulic presses and a wide range of accessories for creating jewelry. Taught by the current owner of Bonny Doon, himself a master craftsman, this hands-on class introduces students to the 20-ton press and its tremendous possibilities. Learn the principles of die forming, use synclastic and anticlastic formers, conforming and non-conforming dies and more. Learn to use volume and form tooling for deep drawing vessels and seamless tubing. Discussion and demonstration will spark new solutions for production, one-of-a-kind and modular jewelry. Prerequisite: Fabrication 1 or experience.
