About

Margaret O’Brien (or Margarita), the jewelry artist of the Pixieprincess Studio, is in the business of making unique, magical sparklies for good girls and boys of all ages in the hopes of spreading whimsy and joy into a world knowing too little of it. Margarita is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s School of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning and San Francisco’s Revere Academy of Jewelry Art.

From October 2001 to August 2006, she had a studio at the Pendleton Art Center in downtown Cincinnati with glass artist Darryl Berry.  Along with private classes in her studio, she also taught Basic Jewelry-making Classes at the Riverbend Art Center in Dayton, Ohio and enameling at Thompson Enamel in Bellvue, Kentucky.

In late August 2007, she packed up and moved with her family to Eugene, Oregon.  She now teaches at the University of Oregon Craft Center and displays her work at Blue Moon Jewelry Designs in downtown Eugene.

When not creating jewelry, Margarita enjoys practicing tribal bellydance, agility training with her pup, yoga, gardening, and knitting.

Artist Statement

I personally perform all of the creative aspects involved in my work, from preliminary sketches to the final polish. I thoroughly enjoy the process of design and creation, bending the metal to my will. Shaping this powerful material into fine designs feels magical. Many of my creative ideas are derived from Nature’s example, tending towards organic line, forms, and texture.

My jewelry work is created with silver, gold, and platinum and fine stones. I use both casting and construction techniques to create original works that are comfortable and exciting to wear.

My enamel works are created in a kiln on copper or fine silver. Enamel is fine powdered glass that can be fused to metal at high temperatures. I enjoy exploring color and pattern through enamel while using many different techniques.
