About Me
I grew up in Columbus, Ohio and returned after graduating from Kent State University with a BFA in Jewelry Metals/Enameling in 2007. Besides jewelry and metalwork, my work sometimes drifts into textiles, particularly felting. Having had opportunities to visit France and Italy while in school, I really love historical art and architecture and try to work those sources into my jewelry.
I put in a good four years working at a costume studio, lovingly called the furry factory, and struggled to find time to make new work. I took workshops at the Columbus Cultural Arts Center, which has fantastic studios and instructors. I then moved to Pittsburgh, PA to work as the Studio Apprentice for a year at the Society of Contemporary Craft. I assisted the Education Director, facilitated workshops, assisted some amazing instructors and taught my own workshops. This coming year I will be continuing my education at East Carolina University.
As previously established, I love different periods of Art and Craft history; Art Nouveau is one of my favorites to use in my work. I combine these historic motifs with microscopic botanical images…chloroplasts, cell structures, reproductive parts, etc. The enameling technique of Plique-a-jour enamored me, so that’s what I use in some of these pieces. My more recent work mixes architectural and industrial elements with those of nature.
