Spring has Sprung

With the vernal equinox past, daylight is increasing every day. Now I have more time to work outside and also more hours of daylight to brighten my shop. As part of a swap from other artisan jewelers, I received a cabochon cut from an interesting piece of druzy quartz. The stone was beautiful, and shaped like a tear drop. I looked at this stone several times a day, wondering what to do with it. My eighth grandchild was born, his brother, came to visit with us for two days during the birth. He found an old single base metal ear ring that belonged to his mother when she was much younger. This ear ring was the same shape as the cabochon. I immediately saw the cab surrounded by sterling silver in the same shape. Taking 9 gauge half round half hard sterling silver wire, I formed the frame. Then with 18 gauge square half hard sterling silver wire, I made a prong setting that was then wired to the frame and the resulting pendant makes a very unique necklace:
