What do you get the man that has everything? That man would be my Dad, and since my Dad does a lot of traveling, I figured I’d make him some shoe bags. I hate going somewhere and having to pack my dirty shoes along side my clean clothes. To avoid that, I have started using shoe bags.
Depending on your packing method, you can make these either to fit one shoe or both. I spead my shoes out to maximize room for my clothes. The following are for one shoe each.
To get the measurements, take the shoe you want to make the bag for, lay it on a piece of pattern fabric and fold that fabric over the shoe. Make sure you leave about two inches on all sides of the shoe for the hem and for it to chich closed. Mark, and voila, there’s your pattern.
I cut the pattern as one piece, cutting along a fold, to minimize the sewing. Simply hem the two sides leaving the top two inches for the drawstring. Fold the top over to make a one inch hem. Straight stich across the top.
I used thick yarn, but you can use any type of cording. Measure twice the width of the bag plus two inches. Cut 2. Pull one cord one direction, and one the other to make the drawstrings.
Now all that’s left to do is pack and take off to some fantastic location.
