It’s like packing for an expedition

May 29, 2011

I am starting to pack for my trip to Haystack and I feel like I am packing for an expedition to the far side of the world. I have done a lot of traveling in my life – I have gone backpacking for several weeks; I was a road warrior while I worked as a consultant and I would be gone for several weeks; I have gone to the wilds of Scotland for almost a month and yet this trip is throwing me off my game.In the informat […]

Stumped!

May 12, 2011

Over the past few months I have written about how it is important to strike the metal on the stake in the correct manner. This implies that you are not only striking the metal at the correct angle but that the stake is at the correct height for YOU. Deb and I have been working on both of these subjects because I have had issues with them but mostly having my stakes at the correct height. My set up has been clampin […]

I have a (hammer) monkey on my back

April 24, 2011

I just realized I have a problem.I am addicted to buying hammers (and stakes) on eBay.I just won another hammer today. I did not mean to do it – I went looking for hammers, stakes and repousse tools while I was having my first cuppa this morning.  And there it was – a silversmith hammer, used […]

Chasing & Repousse Tools

April 24, 2011

Last week a reader of this blog sent me a question about Chasing & Repousse tools. We exchanged several emails and afterwards I though, this would make a good post for others too read.   Remember, I am by no means a master of this technique (yet).  These are my opinions and I am not […]

Dirty Hands Once Again

April 23, 2011

Back in December, I picked up a large “rustic” ball stake off of ebay for about 40 bucks before shipping costs. It is almost 3″ in diameter and brand new something like this would cost almost $200.  It looks like an old and possibly home made stake because the tang is long and round plus only the bottom of the tang is square to fit into the hardy hole of an anvil.   The stake is/was black and had qu […]

April 13, 2011
