SWIRL BOLA

by leessilver on December 11, 2008

This is one of my favorite designs. I created it many years ago when I did a lot of fabrication work and little casting.

The photo was taken back before digital cameras.

The center white swirl inlay is Prestine (That is what it is called by the fellow who found the material) with coral inlaid dots.  The two swirls on either side of the center swirl are Sugalite with Pristine inlaid dots.  The outer two swirls are Lapis with turquoise inlaid dots.

The swirl material was inlaid first then the holes for the dots were drilled with flat tipped diamond drills.

The silver bezels are 18 gage 1/8 inch tall.  The bezels were shaped and soldered then soldered to the back plate.

The bezels were filed down on the edges to give the overall design a slightly curves surface.

The stones were not ground flush with the bezels. The stones are about 1/32 of an inch above the bezel.

I use Aluminum filled Devcon epoxy to mount the stones in the bezels.

I mounted my patented bola/pendant fitting on the back of the bola.  This allow the cords to be removed so the bola can be used as a pendant.

The tip fobs are engraved on both sides.
