Step1

Buy a computer capable of making 3D patterns.

This is no particular computer but make sure the specs and graphics card are made for 3D graphics programs.

Don’t make the mistake of buying an off the shelf computer that is not up to the specs as it will only frustrate you if it is slow or hangs through overload.

If you buy it from a known retailer make sure you have the option of changing the computer or getting your money back if they mislead you. Explain to them what you need it for and then under the consumer laws in most countries if they sell you one that does not work you are protected under ” Consumer guarantees act”.

Step 2

Buy two screens for your design computer.

When you are learning Jewelry Cad Dream or any Cad Program it pays to have two screens.

You can have Jewelry Cad Dream software working on one screen while watching the lessons working on the other.

This helps you learn the program faster.

Look at a section of the lesson you are learning as you stop and start (freeze) the lesson on the other screen in small segments. rewind, learn and try and continue until you have perfected the lesson.

You will find that there is so much information, if you were to watch the whole lesson you would be overwhelmed and won’t learn anything.

Go slow and learn fast.

Step 3

Buy Jewelry Cad Dream software.

It is the best and gives you files that are not static. (Files that are static cannot be altered after they are saved.

Jewelry Cad Dream software files have alterable history that can be altered at any time.

So you can create parent – offspring files and save them as different objects.

You have a choice of two programs. One cheap and the other not so cheap.

This is a place for you to learn from the experts who will  teach you properly how to use the Jewelry Cad Dream software you have purchased.

In this academy you can download lessons to watch at your own leisure.

If you have a design problem you can ask for professional help.

And you can watch the webinars online and join in the classes.

While the lessons are in progress you just watch and learn with question time at the end of the lesson.

All lessons are recorded and available within a few days of the webinar so you can familiarise yourself with the lessons.

The worst Cad Designer is the self taught designer.

If you self teach, you learn a lot of bad habits and normally you it takes a long time to learn.

Why get frustrated when the experts have already learnt from their mistakes of the past or been taught by experts with years experience.

Buy a Big Screen Television

Buy a Big Smart Screen Television to display the fact that you make Bespoke Jewelry on your premises.

You can  display your patterns and the Jewelry Cad Dream Counter Studio in your retail store. If clients come to your store you can give them options if you connect a cordless key board to the big screen.

Step 7

Connect your shop display to the internet.

Connect to the internet.

When you connect to the internet you are given more options.

You can click on photos in Google and come up with all the images you will ever need.

This is just to get ideas so your clients wishes can be meet.

From this you can use you Jewelry Cad Dream program to design  the exact item your client requires.

It also allows options.

Step 8

Have a special studio room.

A big screen TV in the actual shop gives you a very effective visual studio but if you have serious clients wanting buy high quality items you may wish to have a private studio room to discuss their requirements by appointment.

This adds to the prestige factor.

You can either

a) Design the item by the old way of drawing their design (this takes time) and then create their design on the Jewelry Cad Dream software.

or

b) Go to the internet and show them the different ideas they are looking for. From this you can discuss alterations and then design their wishes on the Jewelry Cad Dream software.

Remember anything you design on Jewelry Cad Dream can be altered at any time. This gives you flexibility with design and you can add the items to your library of designs which will grow with time. All designs you make, buy or come with the Jewelry Counter Design Studio can be displayed. All patterns made with Jewelry Cad Dream software can be added to Jewelry Counter Design Studio.

3D Printers

Manuel uses Jewelry Cad Dream 2015 software . He prints all his items and sells  3DSYSTEMS.

I find that resin printers are good to show your clients the finished item before you cast.

You have a choice between buying a 3D resin printer or send your STL files to a 3D Printing and Manufacturing Service Bureau.

At this stage my advice is think hard before you buy a 3D printer.

The maintenance costs can be huge and technology is moving very quick.

a) If you send your 3D STL files to a 3D Printing and Manufacturing Bureau, they will print the items and send either the resin or wax items back to you or you can have them cast the item in the metal you require. The Bureaus I want to set up will print or cast or manufacture your item to the finished state. At any time you can specify what you want and they will give you the price to the stage you require.

These can be set up and are in any country.

b) Buy your own resin printer so you can print the item to show your customer. These can be spray painted in Silver or Gold, set and shown to your client before the final item is manufactured.

There is a third option and that is to set up a cooperative. Like minded people in a group buying to supply themselves and others for their mutual benefit.

Each person can pay an amount of equal proportion to buy the best printer they can afford.

All expenses are shared for the printer but so are the profits.

There are several types of printers.

Wax printers are best for lost wax casting.

Step 10

 Casting

All 3D printed items that are to be made in precious metal will need to be cast.

Steps for casting

A) treeing waxes. These can include 3D printed waxes.

 

I find that casting resin requires additional burn out cycles and is difficult to cast.  It also gives unpredictable results. Each bad experience (Item porosity) costs money and time.

Wax printers are better for casting.

B) Invest the items. This is a type of plaster of paris which can take heat.

C) Burnout cycle. Burns out through a cycle to create a hollow core.

D) Taken out of the can and ready for bench work.

E) Bench work

All castings are made and finished via the bench.

F) Finished item for delivery to your client

 Finally 

Important Advice

When you want to get into this market don’t make expensive mistakes.

It can cost you a fortune if you make mistakes.

Also it is your pathway to independence.

The sooner you start with this software the sooner you will have files that you can alter.

If you already have Jewelry Software ask yourself two questions.

Has your software got an independant counter studio and or can you alter and produce the items independant of any big corporation.

If the answer is yes then you are lucky.

If the answer is no then you are placing your future and time on making someone else rich at your expense. (Time). The most expensive gift.

You can always make money.

Each day you are given 24 hours but if you waste that time has gone forever.

In the end it is your choice to how little or how far you want to proceed with new technology.

Dreams are free but mistakes are costly.
