Torch, etc.

There might be an assuption that as a male, I would be full of all kinds of pre-conceived notions about how men are brave and not afraid of fire, and women are timid and scared of flame.  Not true.  I have been teaching metalsmithing for nearly 30 years, and I estimate that at one time I was teaching over 150 students a year.  Most of my students ( 90%) have been women, so I am intimately familiar with how many, but certainly not, ALL women react

Jay, You should go to an iron pour sometime and see the wild Iron Maidens, not the least bit afraid of fire. I think from my experiences in dealing with really big hot fires that both sexes have a learning curve when it comes to feeling comfortable around them. The same holds true for torches. Many will never become comfortable with fire, they are called woodworkers or painters. The addiction to fire, and it is that, is strong in either sex once acquired and it is acquired not innate.
The Little Torch while a useful tool will never satisfy a person like you or me, a big hot fire person. Like shooting firearms there are the big bore people and the small bore people. They just ain’t the same. You will never convince a L.T. person that their torch is not as good as yours. The same is true of a fellow that shoots an old .30-30 Winchester as opposed to one that shoots a .300 Winchester Magnum. They will not come to agreement, no way, no how.
Me, I like my old Hoke and my Presto-Lite and iron pours with Iron Maidens.
