At a recent meeting of the Orange County GIA Alumni, I got the opportunity to hear Richard Drucker of Gemworld International speak on the topic of gem treatments disclosure and how treated gems are priced in the marketplace.
Heavily treated gems are never to be considered top quality, and in general moderately enhanced gems are the general standard for Gem Guide pricing. However, what is considered “moderate treatment” varies from gem to gem.
In an attempt to clarify some of the many enhancement techniques and their effects, check out my detailed post over at the Mardon Jewelers blog called The Impact of Enhancements on the Value of Gems.
